Note: If you have complex comorbidities such as heart failure, COPD, stroke, neuromuscular disease, severe obesity with possible hypoventilation, or long-term opioid use, the 2025 guidelines recommend Type 1 (Standard PSG) in a hospital setting instead. We can refer you to an appropriate facility.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Type 2 and Type 3 sleep studies?

Type 3 records at least 4 channels (airflow, respiratory effort, SpO₂, heart rate, body position), which is sufficient to diagnose moderate-to-severe OSA under AASM criteria. Type 2 records at least 7 channels including EEG, EOG and EMG, capturing full sleep architecture (REM/NREM) equivalent to in-lab PSG — best for complex cases or suspected parasomnia, narcolepsy or RLS.

Is a home sleep test as accurate as an in-lab study?

For patients without complex comorbidities, a Type 3 home test accurately diagnoses moderate-to-severe OSA per the 2025 Thai national guidelines. Type 2 provides data equivalent to in-lab Type 1. If you have heart failure, COPD, stroke, neuromuscular disease, or use long-term opioids, an in-hospital Type 1 PSG is recommended instead.

How long until I get results?

The test runs for one night at home. After you return the device, results plus recommendations arrive within about one week, including a consultation with a sleep medicine specialist and a medical certificate valid for CPAP purchase or insurance claims.
